SIMPL OR: the realization of evidence-based best practices in trainee procedural assessment

Feasible Assessment

SIMPL evaluations take on average 15 seconds to complete, are completed by faculty and trainees, and can fit into any clinical workflow.

Driven by Evidence

Built from the best evidence in medical education, SIMPL continues to contribute to our understanding of how to educate and assess medical trainees.

Cutting-edge Analytics

The SIMPL OR Reports Dashboard combines powerful data with useful visualizations to drive trainee improvement.

The SIMPL OR module on the SIMPL Platform incorporates all known best practices in workplace-based performance assessment and feedback for procedural tasks.

The three SIMPL questions are answered by both the trainee and faculty instructor, giving a comparative view of trainee progress. After the trainee and faculty complete the SIMPL OR interaction, all program data are available to program leadership through the SIMPL Reports Dashboard. This interactive dashboard is designed to encourage SIMPL use and help trainees progress towards independence.

Since 2015, SIMPL OR has been used by over 450 graduate medical education programs to collect over 1,000,000 trainee assessments in over 25 different specialties. These data are all available to all SIMPL Network members and are actively used in de-identified format for research and quality improvement.

The SIMPL OR module is included with program or institutional membership in the Society for Improving Medical Professional Learning Network. Learn more about SIMPL Network membership here.

The Society for Improving Medical Professional Learning (SIMPL) is a 501c3 nonprofit research collaborative lead by volunteers who are dedicated to working towards a continuously improving medical education system.
